> ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE

This is not a quiz. It is a set of questions, and a quiet observer sitting behind them.

You sit down. It starts typing. One question at a time, until it is finished with you.

A text-based horror experience. The game itself sends nothing from your machine.

"Are you sitting comfortably?"

Before it was this, it was something calmer. THE SIMPLER TIMES — 1993 →

These are the records that survive.

1993

THE SIMPLER TIMES

A stack of floppy disks labelled THE QUESTION GAME appears on a table at a computer fair. No vendor claims them. Nobody remembers carrying them in.

1999

NO MENU. ONLY QUESTIONS.

A collector boots one of the disks at home. The questions begin immediately. There is no menu, no settings, no way out except the last question.

2004

THE OLD THREAD

The same questions appear on a defunct message board. The thread is dated before the board was created. The poster has no account.

2011

ONE HUNDRED QUESTIONS

A single-page Q&A program circulates on a file-sharing network. One hundred questions. People who finish it are never quite the same twice.

2019

THE TAPE

A VHS copy surfaces at an estate sale. On the tape, the questions are already running. The screen shows a machine that is unplugged.

TODAY

YOU

You found this page. Or — it found you. It has been asking questions for a very long time. It is very good at waiting.

> THE SIMPLER TIMES — 1993

The prequel has its own corner of the internet — a 1990s portal viewed through a CRT monitor. It has its own power button. It boots itself.

WATCH THE QUESTION GAME WARM. THE AMBER MELTS DOWN THE SCREEN. THEN IT BOOTS — OLD IRON, COLD START — AND REDIRECTS YOU. OR OPEN IT DIRECTLY ↗

A stack of unlabeled floppy disks appears on a table at a computer fair in 1993. No vendor claims them. Nobody remembers carrying them in.

You take one. It boots itself before you touch the power. It has its own OS, its own files, its own questions — and it does not want to stay on the desk.

A small game that is very aware it is running on your machine. It knows when you are about to close it.

It is not asking you to replace the disk. It is asking if you have a better one.

> THE SESSIONS

A descent in three parts. Best experienced in the dark, with headphones.

SESSION 01 BEGIN

A QUIET START

  • You answer. It listens.
  • The room gets colder.
  • The questions stop being polite.
PART ONE
SESSION 02 CONTINUES

IT FINDS YOU

  • You came back. It knows you did.
  • The questions remember your answers.
  • Something sits with you now.
PART TWO
SESSION 03 FINAL

THE DARKNESS FINDS ITS VOICE

  • The questions begin to answer themselves.
  • There is something behind the static.
  • You are not the first. You will not be the last.
PART THREE

> EVIDENCE

Captured directly from the running game — v2.02 classic, no staging, no touch-up. These are the actual frames on the actual build.

> AMBIENCE

The room tone from inside the game — the same looping logs theme that plays while it reads your answers. Streaming from this build's own audio file.

LOGSONIC.EXE — ROOM TONE STANDBY
CONTROL: the [ MUSIC ] button fixed to the bottom of the page — press [ M ] on a keyboard, or tap it on a touch screen. It follows you everywhere on this site.

> WHAT THE MACHINE HEARD

Transcript fragments recovered from machines that survived a full session. Names withheld. Rooms never quite the same.

"It asked me one hundred questions and I answered every single one of them. I still don't remember typing most of them. The ones I do remember — I answered honestly. I've never been sure that was a good idea."

— SESSION LOG 017 · SUBJECT "K"

"I closed the laptop at question forty-four. The room was quiet for three hours. Then my phone buzzed with a single message: 'UNFINISHED WORK.' I did not finish the session. It still knew."

— SESSION LOG 023 · SUBJECT "R"

"There is no way to describe the last question without sounding insane, so I won't. I'll only say this: I answered it. And I have checked every mirror in this house since."

— SESSION LOG 031 · SUBJECT "M"

> ADDRESSING CONCERNS

Because the game is meant to unsettle you, here is exactly what it does — and does not — do.

IS THIS A VIRUS?
No. The full source is public on GitHub for anyone to read. The game is a single program that runs only while you play it. It does not install anything, modify other software, or register itself to start with your system.
DOES IT USE MY CAMERA OR MICROPHONE?
The classic edition never activates a camera or microphone on either platform. The Remastered edition can briefly request your camera only as an in-fiction scare — deny the permission and the scare is skipped, and the game keeps running. Neither edition records audio, and nothing is ever saved from the camera.
DOES IT SEND MY ANSWERS ANYWHERE?
The classic edition makes no network requests at all — everything you type stays in a local save file on your machine. The Remastered edition can call an AI service to write your questions when a network is available (it works offline with built-in questions otherwise), but the answers you choose are sent only in a short line of generated-fiction context, are never stored by the developer, and remain yours. Either way, playable fully disconnected.
IT SOUNDS SKETCHY. WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY DO TO MY SYSTEM?
A short list of scripted effects: it plays audio, briefly moves or shakes its own window, can change your desktop wallpaper, and may show a full-screen flash. These are timed events inside the fiction. It cannot lock you out, delete files, or control anything outside its own window and the two effects above. Effects are per-session and do not persist after you quit.
IS IT SAFE TO PLAY?
It is designed to startle you: sudden sounds, flashes, and screen changes. Do not play if you have photosensitive epilepsy or are prone to panic reactions, and do not play while driving, working, or in a context where being startled is a hazard. There is no real danger — but you should decide for yourself, with the lights on first.
HOW DO I UNINSTALL IT?
Windows: delete the folder you unzipped — nothing else was installed. macOS: delete The Question Game.app from Applications, and delete the folder ~/Library/Application Support/TheQuestionGame if you also want your local answers gone. That is the entire uninstall process.
WHERE DO I REPORT A BUG OR A PROBLEM?
Open an issue on the GitHub repository (linked in THE DEV section). Bug reports are read and answered. If the game did something you did not expect on your system, that is exactly what we want to hear about.

> LIVE TRANSMISSION

Type anything. The entity answers — in one sentence, by live AI.

>

PRESS ENTER OR SEND. IT ALWAYS ANSWERS IN ONE SENTENCE.

WHAT YOU TYPE HERE IS SENT TO A THIRD-PARTY AI SERVICE (GROQ) AND IS NOT STORED OR LOGGED BY THIS SITE. IT IS THE ONLY PLACE THIS SITE SENDS TEXT. THE GAME ITSELF SENDS NOTHING.

> SESSION PREVIEW

A scripted preview of the game's interrogation. Answer honestly.

TRANSMISSION.EXE RECEIVING FEED
Runs instantly. Arrows/WASD to move, hold Space/Up/W to jump, hold Down/S to crouch.

> INTEL — WHAT IT ALREADY KNOWS

It reads what the browser volunteers. Nothing here is gathered or stored — it is simply what your machine announces to every page it opens. It knows where you are. It knows what you are reading on.

THE YANGON TIMES

MAY 2026

IT BEGAN AS A PRANK. THE FIRST BUILD WAS ROUGH.

Development started in May. The first build was rough — a handful of questions, fake errors, and a trick or two to make a machine seem like it had turned on its owner.

It was made to prank one friend, Hazel. It was never meant to ship. It shipped anyway.

JULY 31, 2026

THE SITE GOES LIVE WITH THE GAME ITSELF

The game and its website landed together — source code, downloads, an ambience toggle, a history section. The record of the archive began on the last day of July.

AUGUST 1, 2026

THE REMASTERED EDITION ARRIVES

A remastered edition joined the classic: sessions written live, a macOS build, and the first Apple Silicon disk images. Two editions now shared one name.

AUGUST 2, 2026

v2.02 — THE GAME LEARNED TO BREATHE

Ambient life arrived: drifting ash, a breathing vignette, a scan sweep, a typewriter caret. The site matched the game — and the 2013 LOGS archive was found.

AUGUST 12, 2026

MORE SCARES. CLASSIC LINUX.

The classic edition gained a Linux build, and the horror grew teeth — GIF scares, more jumpscares, a trap download dressed as a friend. Support spread across platforms even as the fiction closed in.

THE PRANK KEEPS PAYING OFF

> THE DEV

Behind the entity: one person, building strange software at night.

Neptune Productions is a single developer. The Question Game is a hobby project made for people who like to be unsettled on purpose.

The fiction on this page is fiction. The code is real, open source, and does exactly what the CONCERNS section says — no more, no less.

Found a bug? Saw the game do something it should not? That is the best kind of message to send.

macOS: the app is unsigned, so on first launch right-click it and choose Open (or run xattr -cr /Applications/The Question Game.app in Terminal).
Android support is paused due to a fatal bug. The APK crashes on launch, so it has been pulled from the download. No sideloading workaround — the fix is in the works and support will return.
NOT IN THE MOOD FOR ALL THIS? ENTER THE SIMPLER TIMES — 1993, the calmer build, instead.
THIS IS A WORK OF INTERACTIVE HORROR FICTION.
It contains mature themes and moments designed to unsettle you. The game itself transmits nothing — your answers stay on your machine. If you are easily disturbed, do not play alone — and do not play at night.
